the heart break of haiti…

Jan 20

i have been trying to figure out something i can do as a business to help haiti – i offered to donate jewelry for an auction.  yes – it’s a step, but somehow that doesn’t seem to be enough.  as most of you know, i donate a percentage of all sales to charity. the current charity is the city of hope, a cancer center dedicated to ground-breaking efforts to cure cancer.  i was diagnosed cancer at 37, my mom passed away from cancer at the age of 56, my grandfather had cancer and many, many of my friends have had and are currently battling cancer.  in fact, my good friend claire was diagnosed last week with breast cancer and is using her yoga blog to chronicle her story – she is a hilarious writer, please check it out:  www.oceansoulyoga.com but yes, cancer research is a cause so near and dear to my heart.  so i decided that the next charity three sisters will donate to will be one that has been dedicated to the relief efforts in haiti – an organization that is ALWAYS there to help when a major catastrophe strikes.  either american red cross, doctors without borders or habitat for humanity.  the  charity changes quarterly, so this won’t go into effect until april 1 but i’m ready to start thinking about it now.  do you have a preference?  please let me know…   heck, maybe we will raise enough to donate to all three…wouldn’t that be grand?

My vote goes to Habitat for Humanity, I have volunteered a lot with them for a few years and it was a wonderful uplifting experience, I hold that organization close to my heart!

My vote is for Doctors without Borders. I always give to Doctors without borders when these disasters happen….. Haiti seems to be in real need for medical help and I know that as an organization very little goes to administrative costs.
By the way…..I love City of Hope as well. Jeff, my husband received his stem cell transplant there when he was diagnosed with a very aggressive lymphoma. Thanks for contributing to them Zoe!

We chose both the red cross and doctors without borders…a split donation. I love unicef as a children’s relief organization…i have since i was a child and went door to door collecting money for them. They accomplish wonderful things…it’s all so sad and simply heart breaking. We must help in any way we can. Love to you Zoe!

Zoe, my vote is with Doctors without Borders. If I were a doctor, I’d volunteer with them. Amazing charity! Thanks for doing this, Zoe!
