boredom…
Feb 25
i personally think that kids should be bored. turn off the tv, turn off the video games and let them think for themselves. they might drive you crazy when they pace around saying “there’s nothing to do!” but eventually they will find their groove and come up with some really creative things to do. even if it involves making a huge mess. boredom also is a good excuse for laziness which i think our over scheduled kids need every once in a while. we had a “boring” day the other day. but i think my kids will be better off for it, especially as they realize in life that it’s up to THEM to make it happen. no one else will do it for them.

I remember our family car rides in the brown Dodge Coronet wagon, watching the raindrops gobble up each other on the way down the glass. No movies on the little screen, no ipods, handhelds, just peaceful – making up stories about the people who live in the falling apart house with 10 junkers in the yard. I’m with you, Zoe!

I couldn’t agree more, there is only so much Sponge Bob and Mario Brothers I can take. My favorite times with my 2 kids is when we have a record on the turntable and are left up to our own devices for fun. This has led to some serious fort building, role playing and treasure hunts (finding how many of everything is in our house like windows, doorknobs, ect). The connection and the conversations with them at those times will always be awesome memories for us!

i so agree! i was raised with music instead of tv/video (no tv in our house until i turned 13!) so it’s a struggle for me to have the tv on. although i do have to admit that i love “true blood.” tee hee!

Well, we as adults can indulge in all the TV we want (and True Blood is a no miss!), after all that is part of the fun of being an adult
