it’s almost march!…a new give-away!

Feb 22

march – so much fun already and it’s not even here!  i have so many things to look forward to – most importantly my mother-daughter trip to san francisco with jette (can’t wait!), a few birthday celebrations for moi already in the works and then a spur of the moment trip to vegas with my photography partner, lisa (check us out – www.lisaandzoe.com).  that means i get to dress-up a lot in march and that really excites me!  when lisa and i decided yesterday that we really should go to the WPPI photography convention in vegas in two weeks the first thought that crossed my mind is “what am i going to pack?”  so sad – not “what i am going to learn.”  oh well, i don’t get out much.  but i have three “go-to” items that i always pack when i go someplace fun and funky.  what are your top three items to pack?  c’mon – what’s in that suitcase?  deadline is saturday, february 27th!  what do you win?  a $60 gift certificate to three sisters.  yeah!

Sadly, my closet and suitcase are lacking much that is fun and funky. But, I always bring these three items: 1. My electronic reader (greatest gift from my hubby). No matter where we go, having time to relax and read always means vacation. 2. My camera – I sometimes drive my family crazy making them get ready for shots of where we are, but I want to capture every memory. 3. Last item is probably one new item of clothing. It’s always fun to buy at least one new vacation outfit to fit the location. Now, if I am headed to Vegas the one item to never forget is my social security card. The casinos won’t pay out on a large jackpot unless you show them your card. I’m proud to say at 21, I actually needed it. (at 21 a large jackpot was $2,000). :)

Fun and laid back are my vacations – most to the cottages on the lakes in Northern Michigan, or Emerald Isle in NC outer banks. My must haves are my sunglasses, this rectangle lined straw bag my mom gave me with sewn in aqua straw flowers and little glass beads (fancy enough for a purse, casual enough for a beach bag and useful on the way home as an extra carry on for all those treasures) and my super-faded denim skirt that goes with every summer top I own – no matching – and doubles as a swimsuit cover-up!

    1. Shoes, shoes, shoes. No matter where I go, I need at least three pairs minimum!
    2. Something red.
    3. My favorite dark chocolate truffles. The perfect ending to any day. I think I’ll have one now!

    1) my flat iron – trust me, no one wants to see me with finger in a light socket hair
    2) a great pair of flip flops – ya just need them no matter where you are
    3) black leggings – so versatile – they can keep you cool or warm under a fun dress or tunic but more importantly, they are STRETCHY – allowing plenty of room for the non-stop pig out! Oh food is so good, oh how I love food!

I am getting such great ideas from the other comments! And I had no idea about needing the social security card for big wins in Vegas…I’m heading their for a convention next month and will bring my card in hopes of needing it!

    My three items are:
    1. Good book
    2. Mac Viva Glam lipstick/gloss compact
    3. My expensive jeans

    2. My ipod. Music, Music, Music. It’s a MUST!

  8. peyton (age 6 1/2) says

    1. my favorite loveys (yo-yo the bear and lulu the kitty)
    2. my favorite brown boots
    3. my blanket made by “my fantastic grandma debi!”

what a coincidence!! we never go anywhere, but happen to be taking a family trip to san francisco this weekend! i haven’t started packing yet, but i will definitely make sure to take:

    1. MY favorite pair of brown boots (like mother, like daughter)
    2. at least 2 of my necklaces from zoe (one that i wear ALL the time, and another to layer)
    3. a bathing suit — any time we go on vacation, the kids want to spend ALL of our time at the pool.

it’s our first big trip since shiloh was born… ear plugs might not be a bad idea either. =)

One of my favorite quotes is “Wherever you go, there you are.” With that pearl of widsom in mind, whenever I travel I bring things that remind me of what is truly important in life whether I am here, there or anywhere on the planet!

The three things I always bring on my travels are:
    - a favorite photo of my family; my husband, daughter and our lovable but mischievous Chocolate Labrador princess.
    - a weathered pouch containing my cherished collection of gemstones to promote healing, friendship and good vibes.
    - my myriad of vitamin tablets. . . when you get to be my age, they are my fountain of youth for health, energy and enough vitality to keep up with the “youngins.”

I just returned from my very first trip to NYC with my husband and no kiddos….so it was a great time and a fun one to pack for!

    1. I needed a fun and funky hat: bought me a pink, purple and brown striped one, love it!
    2. A great new book to read…it’s always a goal of mine to finish a book while on a trip and it usually happens on the plane ride there and back.
    3. Comfy clothes for winding down in the hotel room…that’s what I call my yoga pants and a cozy sweatshirt and ugg boots.

I have remember way back to the pre-child days when I traveled…..but if memory serves me well these would be it:
    1) Camera of course!

    2) At least 1 place I have researched that I want to see (ie..some tiny bit of a plan)

    3) Old shoes! On our honeymoon to Paris I brought new shoes……. very bad idea for a person with large feet. I spent half a day walking the streets in search of comfortable shoes because the blisters were really getting to me. Not to be found! I will never ever take new shoes on a trip again…..no matter how comfy I think they might be!
