my kids keep me on my toes. they are busy, busy, BUSY – by the end of day i am wiped. keeping them entertained during spring break and trying to work is tough – in fact, it’s totally impossible. so we try and think of things to keep them busy around the house. this is one of their favorite past times -barreling down the front walkway in the over sized tonka trunk. it’s pretty entertaining to watch. we live on a hillside so i get a little nervous – i am afraid they will go flying off the hill. so the helmet is my idea.

we are ready to announce the latest hand stamped jewelry give away winner! asked jen (winner of “where would you go? give away) to judge the latest give away on “sharing.” check out the post here if you missed it – lots of inspiring and heart warming responses. thank you all! here is judge jen’s response:
I vote, Winner Winner Share Your Dinner to Meg Capreedy. I really liked that she sounds like the type of person who is willing to share every part of herself without giving it all away. You should always keep some piece of yourself for yourself.
Meg, step right up and e-mail me at zoe@threesistersjewelrydesign.com to claim your gift certificate. Congrats!

chinatown was one of the first spots we hit on our trip. it helped that our hotel was located right outside the gate to chinatown, so we threw our bags in our room and headed down grant street. the girls loved it! so many things to look at and people to watch. from the bakeries with fluffy buns in the windows, to the souvenir stores with rows and rows of buddhas, to the markets with chicken feet hanging in the window – chinatown is an assault on the senses. i love it so much there! on laurie’s suggestion we went to the “house of nan king” for lunch and it was incredible! you are supposed to ask the waiter to take care of you, no menu, and just go for it. trust. we had the most delicious stir fried pea shoots with garlic, chili and chicken. WOW! we were in heaven. i probably could have eaten there every day, every meal and been very happy. i think i will dream about those pea shoots until i make it back for more!

jette and i are back from san francisco and we had a WONDERFUL time… too tired to write much now, but within a forty eight hour time period we rode in a shuttle, an airplane, an electric bus, the BART, a cable car, a train and a taxi. oh and we walked about 100 miles and ate more food than i would like to admit! i surprised jette and invited grace, one of her buddies, and her mom laurie (one of MY buddies) to join. the four of us had so much fun…can’t wait to tell you more about it. lots of pictures to share!

there is always a part of me that is a tiny bit sad on my birthday – it’s another day where i miss my mom desperately. for the first 36 years of my life, the first thing i heard on my birthday was my mom singing “happy birthday” in her off-key, sweet voice. she never said “hi” first or anything like that – she would either walk into my room and start singing (when i still lived at home) or call me at 8am and launch into her rendition. and she was punctual! 8am sharp. i could count on her. the other thing she did was take me to san francisco every year for my birthday. we were very poor so this was a major deal for us. we would eat exotic foods, walk for miles and miles and miles and much to my chagrin, we never shopped. my mom hated shopping. but it was in san francisco that we had the most delicious chinese meal (henry chungs!), my first bite of french and indian foods and walked the golden gate bridge. san francisco is special to me – it reminds me of my mom and how she made my world so big when i was little. so tomorrow begins this same tradition with my girls. jette and i are going to celebrate her ninth birthday and she is SO excited. i can’t wait to make her world bigger and share some special mother-daughter time. it’s going to be perfect!

yeah! today is off to a great start… a sweet friend left me some sweet treats! a pile of chocolate bars (at least two weeks worth!) and a stack of notebooks to keep scattered all over for my infamous lists. but what’s most amazing and cool? the thoughtfulness of my dear friend kerry. so many fun things in store for today! brunch with friends, an exciting DMV appointment (yahoo), dinner at buca de bepo with the family and then snuggling on the couch with niels and the girls to watch “where the wild things are.” fun, fun, fun!

yes, tomorrow is the BIG DAY. i am officially 41. not sure how it happened but somehow it did. and i couldn’t be happier. i don’t need a thing and i count my lucky stars that i have my family and friends. people have been crawling out of the woodwork to make tomorrow special and i am THANKFUL. the girls are acting like it’s christmas – they decorated the house, made their cards, wrapped their presents. i am so proud that at a young age they feel excitement when they give to someone else…
