mother of the year…

May 21

i have to admit – i am exhausted trying to be the “perfect mom.”  it’s really hard to be a parent and i miss my mom’s support so much – because i know that she would constructively help me parent and give me ideas, without passing judgment (judgment i can do without).  i can’t help but fall into those “mother of the year” situations – the situation where i forget to bring cupcakes for my daughter’s birthday, or when i am losing it on one of my kids in target while the PTA prez strolls by, or when i give my daughters soda at 8am.  yes, those moments happen and well, i just can’t help myself.  one such moment is happening right now… jette’s class is doing a “biography” on a famous person.  they need to study a famous person and then write a report.  when they are done, then they will perform a “wax museum” for the other classes by dressing as the famous person and standing still.  pretty cool.  the one caveat is that a book must be written about this famous person in order for it to be acceptable.  most kids chose neil armstrong, helen keller, abraham lincoln, anne frank.  who does jette choose?  madonna.  No not THAT madonna but madonna louise veronica ciccone.   the original boy toy.  yikes!  well – i guess it’s OK…right?  i’m a product of the 80′s and have a huge soft spot for madonna.  so we head off to the library, borders and barnes & noble to find an acceptable book on madonna.  guess what?  it doesn’t exist – the only book we can find is “life with my sister madonna” by madonna’s brother, christopher ciccone.  so i buy it, meet with her teacher and swear up and down i won’t let her bring the book to school and i will closely monitor her while she does her report.  so jette and i have been spending a lot of time on youtube lately watching “borderline,” “lucky star,” “material girl” (yes, there are a few i am definitely avoiding!) and it’s actually kind of fun.  i’ve learned a lot about madonna and discovered that one of her heroes is joan of arc.  joan of arc was jette’s plan B – kind of interesting.  so yes, please don’t pass judgment.  my nine year old is studying madonna.  but c’mon – would you rather dress as betsy ross or madonna in a wax museum?

I think that you are probably the coolest mom I have ever known! That is going to be a great report!!! Can’t wait to see her as the wax version of Madonna!

Of all the books that are out there to read, modern day biographies, especially auto-biographies are such favs. for me. I must read this one on Madonna! I find it fascinating to read about other peoples’ lives. Maybe that’s why I’m addicted to People and US magazines! Now that’s a book club, anyone got one for me to join?

By the way, I have some serious neon and lacy socks Jette can use!

You’ve got my vote for mom of the year! And who cares if anyone else doesn’t like it or agree with it…that’s their problem ;-)

Steve’s sister went to high school with Madonna Louise at Rochester Adams high school in Rochester MIchigan. She was very plain looking but a wild child…perfect!! QWe” be waiting for the pics. I think the wax thing will be good for your mom of the year …. At least she won’t be dancing like Madonna.
