jade…
Sep 5
when i was 16 my mom gave me a little box that contained about a dozen pieces of small jade. she said she collected them at “jade cove” in big sur, california while she was pregnant with me. she said she remembers feeling excited and nervous about her pregnancy while she collected the stones. i remember playing with the small asian box with stones in it when i was little but didn’t understand their meaning until i was 16. i keep this box very safe – it’s one of my most prized possessions. when i look at the stones i feel connected to my mom, knowing that while they were found she was thinking about her future with her new baby. three sisters’ new necklace, confuscious says, is a tribute to my mom and her jade. confuscius said there are eleven virtues of jade: ‘The wise have likened jade to virtue. For them, its polish and brilliancy represent the whole of purity; its perfect compactness and extreme hardness represent the sureness of intelligence; its angles, which do not cut, although they seem sharp, represent justice; the pure and prolonged sound, which it gives forth when one strikes it, represents music. Its color represents loyalty; its interior flaws, always showing themselves through the transparency, call to mind sincerity; its iridescent brightness represents heaven; its admirable substance, born of mountain and of water, represents the earth. The price that the entire world attaches to it represents the truth. When I think of a wise man, his merits appear to be like jade.’ my mom also loved elephants. an elephant with an upturned trunk means good luck. you can find the confuscius says hand stamped necklace in the shop!
best wishes, zoe
