i was on the verge of quitting photography – just OVER it. i had burned myself out, was lacking creative juice and i was tired… jewelry had sort of taken over my life. i decided it was time to scrap the photography business and just keep current clients and friends. shut down the site and be done with it. and then i met lisa. she salvaged my burned-out photog soul and drug me back – breathing new life and energy into my perspective. now i am more stoked than i have ever been on photography! yeah! we are in the process of revamping the studio. actually, lisa is. she has done all of the work. but anyway, we are on the same page. we don’t want to be the biggest, bestest photographers in the west – we just want to have fun, love the families we work with and do our “thang.” i will not deny that i have difficulty balancing the two with my family and my social life – but i do love photography and it’s opened a new world for me. so i think i will stick around a while. while we were hanging the new signs last week she snapped these pix of me. i look pretty happy. thanks lisa!

lisa and i are back from the crazy photo convention in vegas – 14,000 people! yes, that’s a lot of photographers. we had a blast – it was crazy, i’m tired and can’t blog much. but just had to share the view from our room with you. we stayed at the MGM Grand. After our plane was delayed 1 1/2 hours (sitting on the runway the entire time!) – we were so excited to finally get to our room, throw our bags down, kick off our shoes and throw open the curtains to soak up the lights of the strip. instead, the gravel-roof top of the casino stared us straight in the face. we laughed hilariously – what else could you do? … was this a foreshadowing of things to come? i don’t know…stay tuned. lots to blog about!

behind every design there is usually a story to the name. i like everything to have some special meaning, it makes life a bit more interesting. whether a funny little joke, something sentimental or a call out to a special person – i can’t resist myself when i name my designs. the newest gold hand stamped necklace is “rainy day” – named in honor of miss rainy. you probably remember rainy and her daughter from a few posts back – they are the mother/daughter team who take photos together every year. around the same time we did the photo shoot her sweetie contacted me for a custom design for rainy’s birthday – i’ve had to hold off posting it on the site because i didn’t want to blow her birthday surprise. i came up with this necklace – it reminds me of her…sparkly, sunshine and fun. you can find the rainy day hand stamped necklace in the shop. rainy is a special person, i think she shines through in her photos.

every year our family sends valentine’s instead of holiday cards – the holidays are insane and it’s too much for me to get cards out in december. valentine’s suits me much better for a lot of reasons. i like that you can be colorful and playful. this year i had this grand delusion of what our cards would look like and sadly none of it turned out. i try and do something a little different every year. so i dressed up the girls, took them to the studio and tried – but it just wasn’t happening. i was so disappointed and on the verge of throwing my camera out the window. i hate it when i visualize something and then it doesn’t turn out. oh well, maybe next year…here is one of the images i will be using of elle. she is always so calm and easy with the camera.
