i was talking with a dad at the soccer field the other day.  like me, he has three daughters.  his oldest is getting ready to leave for college.  i asked him how he felt about it and this is what he said (very passionately):

“i’m not ready.”

“there is still so much to do together.”

“there is so much i wish i would have done.”

“i’m just not ready.”

stay small little brittsy.

i have small, little things sitting around my house.

to others they may seem insignificant, maybe even unnecessary.

to me, they are memories.

small tokens to remind me of who i am, where i came from and what centers me.

this is my grandfather’s spoon – his spoon while he served in the navy during world war two.

we use it daily, i look at often and reflect on the amazing life my grandfather led.

“i sleep more than the average bear” is one of my mottos.  i love sleep.  niels likes to say that i can actually “eat sleep.”  it might be possible.  a person of extremes – i am either going a zillion miles an hour or i am lounging and i just can’t get up.  this was a weekend of fun snuggles with britt- two hours on the couch watching dora and max & ruby reruns.  and a weekend of sleeping, sleeping and more sleeping.  now that’s my kinda weekend!

there were a few things that i wasn’t quite prepared for (emotionally) when i became a parent.  one was the extreme sense of timeless-love when i looked into my little daughter’s face.  i was overwhelmed at how deeply i was in love with her.   how was that even possible?!  and then, one of the many others is how my heart would swell BEYOND belief during moments of being a proud mom.  jette has been playing soccer since she was three.  just a little pee-wee out there chasing the ball – i give niels full-credit for understanding what a significant role athletics play in a child’s life.  now, seven years later jette is developing into quite the athlete and i couldn’t be prouder of her.  she will try any new sport and her latest is la crosse.  when i take a step back, look at my daughter and see what mighty accomplishments she has made for just being ten,  i couldn’t be prouder.

a little known fact about me – i didn’t bowl until i was in my mid-20′s.  my kids have been a ton of times and they love it.   now – i love to bowl too.  what isn’t there to love?  the retro alley, junk food, cool shoes, loud music and of course…happy kids.  we had a bowling excursion and had a great time!
