we have a lot of sports going on in the house right now – soccer, basketball, softball and la crosse.  i have to admit that i am loving la crosse a little more than the others – it’s different and new (i can’t seem to figure out the rules), it’s kind of edgy (the coaches are all young, hip girls) and it’s physical (mouth guards and eye goggles?!).

The day after Britt’s birthday is Jette’s.  Eleven this year.  My oldest and my first.  Jette is my right-hand person.  She decided on a “nerd” bowling party this year – a combination of the basketball team and the soccer team, this group is quite amazing.  All so athletic and smart.  Happy Birthday to my little Jette-y.

Our family has a string of birthdays that starts with mine on March 24th and then ends in mid-April.  It’s a fun and crazy month for us and Britt is right in the mix having her share of fun.  We are all Aries (poor Niels) – which makes it a little exciting and chaotic.  Britt is the quintessential Aries.   Independent, enthusiastic, impulsive and generous.  Miss Britt turned five today – ready for kindergarten in the fall.

i was thinking about how i spend my time and wondering how i could be a bit more organized.  how i can cram a few more things into the day so i can maximize it all – what can i cut out, what can i do differently so i can get just a bit more done.  yes, it’s the american way.  i figured out how much time i spend making meals, grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, help with homework and oh yeah – sports.  sports have become bigger in my house than i could have imagined.  i figured it out and i spend 15.5 hours per week driving, waiting, watching and cheering.  it mostly happens between the hours of 3pm and 7pm monday through friday and then weekends.  it’s a big chunk of time.   but i wouldn’t want to spend it any other way and quite honestly, it’s the highlight of my week.

Britt is nothing short of personality.  As my friend put it, “Britt is a character.”  She beats to the sound of her own drum – singing all of the time, talking to herself and lugging around toys and rocks (she has an obsession with rocks).  And of course she bosses us all around – one friend even told me there is a chance she could be our first woman President.  I’m not sure if she meant that in a good way, but I will definitely take it as a compliment.  Every day is a party and an adventure to Britt – she is happy and excited about everything that happens in our crazy house.  The glass is half-full to little Britt.  She is a one-person show and provides hours of entertainment, and of course frustration as parenting a strong-willed child is exhausting.  But it will pay off one day, right?   She can’t say her “R”s and it comes out as a “W” sound – Britt is “Bwittsy” to those that love her and know her well.  Yes, Bwittsy oozes character.

my “real” camera has been tucked away for a while.  all of my images are coming from my phone – that’s not so good.  so, yes – i reached burn out.  doing too much, promising too many people too many things and as a result, i didn’t want to do anything.  so my camera has been sitting.  and sitting.  and sitting.  i want to pick it up again but i really have to “want” to, otherwise i will be frustrated with what i produce.  the other day britt was snuggling with lucky on my bed.  i grabbed my camera for the first time in a very long time and snapped the first image of her.  it made me happy.  it might be time to grab that camera again.
